Triplex mud pumps are big pumps capable of drawing out mud out of wells meant for drilling to explore oil. They are heavy duty pumps which work on the force of reciprocating pistons. The piston pulls up and pushes in a cyclic order and that draws out the mud and then pushes it through an opening on the upper part of the pump.

Working Of Triplex Mud Pumps

Movement of the piston in Triplex mud pumps is an example of transformation of motion. Here rotational motion of the motor is transferred to horizontal motion of the piston with the help of a crankshaft. A crankshaft is an important part of these pumps. There are various other parts of these pumps.

Fluid End

The fluid end of triplex mud pumps has the piston, liners, suction dampener, pulsation dampener and some valves. All these parts are extensively used during operation of the pump. Modern triplex mud pumps are designed in a way that changing parts becomes quick and easy.

Power End

The power end is responsible for converting rotational motion to reciprocating motion. It contains a crosshead crank gear for this purpose. Since this crank gear is extensively used during each cycle of the piston, it is prone to malfunction too. The manufacturer must have a steady supply of crank gears of various sizes to ensure uninterrupted work.
