Uraddal Gulab Jamun: The Lip-Smacking Recipe

Uraddal Gulab Jamun, a lip-smacking delicacy that no one could resist. Most people try the delicious and sweet dish at food venues, but with this recipe, you could simply prepare it at home with the same taste. 

Ingredients for Uraddal Gulab Jamun:
  • ½ cup - Whole White Urad Dal 
  • 1 tsp - Maida 
For Sugar Syrup:
  • Sugar or jaggery - 3/4 cup 
  • 1/2cup - Water 
  • ¼ tsp - Cardamom Powder 
  • 3 drops - Rose Essence (optional) 
To Deep Fry:
  • Ghee or Oil as needed to fry
How to prepare Uraddal Gulab Jamun:

1. Clean & soak the urad dal for two hours. Then drain the water thoroughly. Grind it in a soft & gentle paste with very little water.
2. The batter looking like butter is the right consistency. Grind it utilising a grinder or mixie.
3. Take the batter out of the grinder or mixie & put it in a wide vessel. Drop one tbsp of maida. Combine them finely with your hands.
4. Heat the ghee or oil in a vessel, wet the hands with water & drop gooseberry size balls in it. Put the flame at moderate only.
5. Fry them properly on each side until they turn golden yellow colour.
6. Take it out from the oil & drain the oil fully.
7. Instantly put them in the already made hot sugar or jaggery syrup. Leave it for fifteen minutes & then serve.
8. Combine the sugar & water or jaggery in a wide vessel. Bring it for boiling until it dissolves thoroughly.
9. Now strain the syrup to filter impurities. Again bring it for boiling & include cardamom powder. Cook until the syrup turns little bit thick but before the one string consistency.
10. Include rose essence if you wish. Sugar syrup is there to serve.
11. You could keep it for two to three days at room temperature.

Note:

The batter is a bit watery, drop little maida. It gives hardness to the Jamun.
